Paige's Favorite Things

My friends and I have been wearing Dogeared Wish Necklaces for years. The concept is simple: it’s just a little charm (my choice is the feather) that is put on a single piece of string. When this string breaks, all your wildest dreams come true! Of course I was excited- I then realized how darn durable they are. I never take it off. I wear it to sleep, exercise, layered with other necklaces… I don’t even take it off for black tie events. It’s delicate enough that some people don’t even notice it. And it lasts for months…only downfall is I have to wait months for my wish to come true! Best part...you can pick one up at Wink.

I try never to work on Sundays (perks of being boss lady!) I love sleeping in, reading the NY Times and going to the Farmer's Market in Dupont Circle for scones and chocolate milk. There are barrels of other goodies, usually seasonal, and I’m not shy to admit to partaking in those treats as well. It is the only day of the week when I allow myself to be totally lazy and indulge.

Starbucks Venti Unsweetened Passion Tea Lemonade – I literally drink daily, especially as the weather gets warmer. It is so refreshing and, really, it just makes me happy! Remember to ask for it unsweetened though- the yucky syrup they pump it full of is enough to turn my Zen drink into a sickly sweet soda.

YogaChai is by far my favorite place in the city to practice yoga (say it with me: bohemian.) I’ve been to many places and this is the only place I’ve found where the instructor is actually paying attention to your alignment. Alex, the owner, teaches most of the classes I attend. He challenges everyone in the class and will rarely allow you to get away with being lazy. When I do yoga, I want to feel the burn, so his special attention makes me feel like I’m getting the work out I need. If you do it properly, trust me you will sweat.

I love Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne. It has an understated, distinctly British fruity fragrance with the warmth of honey (don’t I sound like a beauty guru?) I wear it everyday...any time I try and shake it up and try to wear something different, I get grossed out. Literally.

I love color! It’s something so basic, but seriously so important! I am undecided as to what my favorite color is because it changes on a daily basis. However, anyone who has ever been to Wink (hopefully that’s all of you!) knows that we all love color here. It’s happy, it’s chic, and it instantly brightens your day – literally and metaphorically.

I love Mid-Century Modern decor. I grew up in homes that had accents of MCM furniture and architecture. Some of my favorites include the likes of Eames, Mies van der Rohe, and Frank Lloyd Wright, just to name a few. (If you don’t know them, Google them! I promise you won’t regret it.) We had a farm next to Falling Water growing up and I loved to visit the grounds and interior of the home, it’s spectacular.

Gypset Style by Julia Chaplin is one of my go-to books. The style and pictures in this book are amazing. I love how it mixes high and low. The book describes these style denizens as "artists, surfers, designers and bon vivants who live and work around the world". Umm...I want this life please! I love the free spirit of a gypsy combined with the sophistication of a jetsetter...sign me up! More travel please! If you want to see what I am talking about, you can pick up a copy at Wink.

I use Benetint (rose tinted cheek and lip stain) every morning, even to workout, and I am definitely not one to get "dressed" up to work out. It just gives my lips a natural tint of color and I think it looks best with just a little lip balm. I am not a fan of lipstick or heavy gloss...I mean, who wants to kiss those lips?!

The Blue Bonnet/Bullet (depending on my mood) - I bought this bike in NY at Adeline Adeline after being inspired by the Capitol Bike Share program in DC - I am obsessed! I use it to get around on the weekends and at night; lucky for me I can walk to work. It has all the bells and whistles…front light, basket, air pump, and a Brooks leather seat that is supposed to get better (read: softer) over time. I admit it’s still a little stiff. But with those cute white tires, who cares? I’m pedaling in style!

My dad introduced me to Dr. Scholl's Moleskin on the many hikes we took together as a child in Montana and Wyoming. Inevitably I would get blisters from my hiking boots around mile 3 and he was always prepared with moleskin in his pack. I have carried this into my adult hood and have found Moleskin to be a life saver. Is now a good time to clarify that I’m not talking about those precious little leather-bound journals? I’m talking about the good old moleskin blister/foot saver stickies. Less than glamorous, but something all glamazons should own. We are constantly on our feet at the store, so I’m usually in flats, but while breaking them in, a little moleskin to cover that raw edge is necessary. We’ve even offered pieces to customers who come in and complain about walking all day in Georgetown and have blisters. Who knew that something so small could be so life-changing?

So random, but my sister gave me a CompostCab as a gift for my Birthday and I now think everyone should compost. I tend to be pretty green in my habits, but this was taking it to a whole new level. And no it doesn’t smell, it’s in an air tight container and the service comes to pick it up once a week. They do all the work for you and you get all the benefits. I strongly encourage everyone to get on board. (P.S. I’m starting to sound a little like a hippie. I prefer the word “bohemian.” Much chicer.)
