Kate's Game Changers of 2012

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.  I'm not really a make up person, but when my mom told me last Christmas I was looking sort of gray, I decided it was time to grow up and put on a big girl face. Love this because it’s idiot proof and not too heavy.

Equipment Blouses.  The chicer upgrade of my flannel uniform. I’ll let y’all in on a little secret. Equipment blouses are literally men’s button downs, but because they come in funky prints and in silk, everyone believes that you actually spent time to look that cute. Not true - I spent no time, and I’m an Equipment convert now. Every pattern, color, cut. Rar!

The Sock Bun.  Like makeup, I don’t know how to do my hair properly. It’s straight, won’t hold curl or anything, and it will go unbrushed for days, until a gnarly dreadlock has formed and I’m forced to brush it. When co-worker Kaleigh introduced me to the sock bun, my life changed. So easy, so many online demonstrations. I look immediately more put together and professional.

Charlotte Olympia Kitty Flats.  I don’t spend money on flats. Unlike my absurd penchant for unaffordable heels, I refuse to dole out dough for flats (even though I spend most days in those and not my beautiful Atwoods and friends) these flats changed my tune. I literally sat on a wait list for 3 months for my little kitties, and it was worth every minute. P.S. I actually don’t even like cats. Except Cole (Paige's little prince). He’s all right I guess.

Elizabeth Cole Fish Bone Earrings.  I hate dangly earrings. They make me nervous because they draw a ton of attention to the face and they get tangled in my hair, but these dangles were too good to pass up. I thought about them for months and finally took the plunge and so far, so good. Still don’t like dangly earrings, but this is progress.

Schlafly Pumpkin Ale.  My favorite time of year is Fall, and with the discovery of this pumpkin beer, it was my best fall yet. I love all pumpkin ales, but this one takes the cake. Naturally, it’s impossible to find. Way to go me and my sophisticated beer palate.

Instagram.  I’m embarrassed about this one.

Isabel Marant Bekett Wedge Sneakers.  I've been lusting after these for literally months, finally got them, they are just as comfy as you’d think, and so cute to boot...Ha!  Haters gonna hate, but I’m obsessed still a year later.

Game of Thrones.  Since True Blood has gotten a little weird, this TV show has filled the hole left in my heart (the little hole built specifically for weird fantasy sexy times and morbid displays of violence and gore).

J Brand Leather Pants.  I’m no stranger to leather. It’s my favorite material, and if I could I would wear it head to toe year round. Seeing as I live in DC, this is not a realistic possibility. However, the winter months have been perfect for my newest leather obsession. These pants are so soft it’s insane, and they are both saucy and hip at the same time. Amazing!
